Welcome to the Salk Viral Vector Core and the NEI Neurobiology of Vision Molecular Biology and Virology Core

THE VECTOR CORE OFFICES AND LAB HAVE MOVED. WE CAN BE FOUND IN THE WEST INTERIM BUILDING (WIF - Building 2) PLEASE GO TO THE LOCATION PAGE FOR A MAP OF OUR NEW HOME....

We are one of two cores providing viral vector services for the Neuroscience Blueprint Initiative that covers multiple institutions on the La Jolla Mesa. We also provide services to the Salk NEI Center for the Neurobiology of Vision. Virus production services are available to all La Jolla Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Core users. The other LJINC vector core is located at the Burnham Institute and produces lentiviral vectors for the expression of transgenes or RNAi. Researchers may use either core. The specific strengths of the Salk core include:

  • Production of concentrated (1000x) high titer pseudotyped lentiviral (HIV-1 and EIAV) and retroviral vectors from 2nd and 3rd generation packaging systems, suitable for both in vitro and in vivo use.
  • Production of high titer recombinant adeno-associated viral vectors (rAAV2) cross-packaged with a range of capsids.
  • Consultation on experimental design, vector development and biosafety related to the use of viral vectors.

* NEW! We will be offering Adenoviral production and purification services soon - watch this space!
